*flop*
Youngest sister—since I was taking off work today for my birthday anyway—invited me to her drama class production of Deathtrap. Very glad I went. That is an exceedingly twisty play. Exceedingly meta, too. She was sound tech—she told us after that she was doing a last check of the sound effects before the show and the first file for act two didn't open properly, so she was frantically re-downloading the file during act one.
Good birthday.
That said, though, seriously fuck the thing where it's okay for characters in a high school theatrical production to be overtly straight but not overtly gay or bi. Sister also told us the drama teacher insisted on taking that part out.

Not blaming the drama teacher, to be clear; he's decent people. Blaming society.

Society is made up of people. Often generally-decent people propagate some pretty terrible memes.
I don't suggest judging or condemning the drama techer, but offering a bit of a nudge to let him know that that is actually a harmful decision (what message is that sending to the queer students? or any other minority? nothing good, right) might be appropriate & useful. Or it might not, it's entirely situational and it seems quite likely that nobody has both the social position and the spoons to readily bring it up right now.
But, generally, I don't divide the world into good people and not-good people. (There are people who I am pretty sure are evil, but they have really worked at earning that label from me, and while emotionally I loathe and fear them I assume that in the abstract it is likely they have at least half a good quality somewhere. There are people I trust and admire and love greatly, but I don't expect them to be perfect.) Some people are genuinely much kinder and wiser and less hateful and more loving than others, but the real enemy is hatred itself and acquiescence to hatred, not people who believe what they've been told.
...I actually need to go think about how this applies to me now. (Thinkythoughts.)

I'm pretty confident he knows exactly what message he's sending to the queer students by thus editing the script, but also he has to be aware of what message he's sending to the school district parents...and this county isn't exactly Metropolis, you know?
