...from a strictly internal-story-logic perspective, is there any reason "Athena is a trans woman" wouldn't work? I mean, there's the whole "Zeus's son by Metis will overthrow Zeus" prophecy deal, and it's a lil bit difficult to tell a trans girl infant from a cis boy infant. But that same prophecy says Zeus's son by Metis is Zeus's second child by Metis, the first child being a daughter. So is it plausible that the Olympians are sufficiently trans-accepting (and prophecy-believing) to just roll with "okay, this kid's a girl" even though she looks like she ought to be assigned male?
